Body. So. Sore.
Shortly before the holidays I joined a large chain gym with my longtime workout partner Lance. Lance and I are in roughly the same situation at this point and need to each peal off 20 lbs for health reasons... and then another 20 lbs to make it all worth while :)
Lance and I worked out for just over an hour last night and I have to say I am in some pretty significant pain today. We're doing the Men's Health "Belly-off: Dumbell Blast" workout and padding the end of the session with some cardio (hopefully moving to HI-IT shortly). I feel good going back to the gym and it was really strange but all of the self concious feelings one normally has on returning to the gym weren't there... I can't explain it but it feels good. It wasn't until the middle of the workout that I remembered how I used to feel coming back and to be honest it was a moment and a thought, and I've moved past it.
I've talked about this before I'm sure, but one of the biggest challenges one faces when starting a diet and exercise program is integrating it with your everyday life. I haven't had much luck in the past with taking the approach of totally divorcing myself from the social interactions that come from eating out with friends. In this case I've made them aware of my plans and have steered them towards an establishment that can cater to the type of fare I now need to eat. Knowing we were going out for lunch today I moved my mid afternoon snack up an hour and drank 1L of water before leaving for lunch to stave off that need to order that appetizer. Open face veggie burger with low fat/low sugar salad dressing. Not bad. I took a look at the meal sized salads but honestly once you take away all of the cheese, won-tons and other crap you're not left with much.
Now to stop working until 2am every night!
242.3lbs this morning. It's going to be an interesting first 90 days.
