Personally, I blame technology....
I hope this isn't the start of a new trend where in my advancing age I look at new technology as "unnecessary" and "frivolous" perhaps even "confusing". I just spent an hour trying to get the new version of Firefox installed as my old one had obviously become corrupted by evil forces. A conduit for an ancient alien space god or maybe just a virus or some spyware... Now I know how octogenarians feel... which could be responsible for my sudden compulsion to rub goldbond on myself while cursing the misguided youth of today.
Speaking of which...
I'm sorry if this officially makes me a crotchety old 20-something... but kids today seem terribly stupid... compared to the youth of my generation that is. I was young once, yes not very long ago, and I often did foolish things, thought I knew everything there was to know about any given subject and pretty much all I wanted to do was have sex with a busty raven haired girl-next-door type named Meagan... but even in my hormone crazed state of adolescent irresponsibility I still read books and had a basic understanding of the world around me. Something just feels wrong with teenagers today, like they've somehow been augmented in some ways at the cost of others. And it seems as if younger and younger they're focused on materialistic things... I think the condition is being called "Affluenza" by those that are more cognisant of such things than I.
Rant off...
So Phase 2 of Jason's Adventures in weight loss didn't go so well. I manged to get almost no real consistent exercise and I pretty much ate whatever I wanted. I'll say it was a busy summer and the weight loss took a beating and move on because I'm really not here to make excuses for myself and rationalize this self inflicted condition. So September 1st will be the start of Phase 3, the phase where I reaffirm my decision to take off the unhealthy weight. You know... by: Being accountable for the things I eat and when I eat them, getting exercise on a regular basis at least 4 days per week, taking available opportunities in my daily life to get more exercise, and managing my time better so my personal relationships don't suffer as a result of my mission.
Other stuff...
I think it's odd how really nice people can attract and accumulate really lousy and unreliable "friends". There comes a time in the years proceeding high school, post secondary, and job changes that you do what I call the "friend audit". Pruning old relationships that you forged in an earlier time that perhaps don't belong in your life anymore. Sure, you can still have a great time with them (if you let yourself) but are you really that guy anymore? There was a time when I was hanging out with a shiftless crowd of pot smoking anarchists that were intent on coasting through life on their inflated egos and the self satisfaction they gained from being morally superior to "wage slaves" with day jobs... at the time I thought they were pretty cool. I had been introduced to this group of characters and their drama by a friend of mine at the time named Drew. Sure we had a good time, hey what young guy doesn't enjoy a trouble free existence surrounded by hot open minded women all the while blasting away braincells on various "safe" and "mind expanding" recreational drugs? The fun had to stop sometime... and I needed to grow up and take control of my life. No one wants to be the "30-something" loser still pretending he's 20 years old and bullet proof. As I got older I realized that Drew and I couldn't be friends because he never grew out of it. Purely a creature of self-fulfilment he had the willpower and control of a red-assed baboon. Part of me was insanely jealous that he could so effectively silence the voice in his head that was telling him to get a real job, buy a house and start planning for the future. Drew is just one example of the people I have had to separate myself from over the years. I think this practice of pruning personal relationships should be widely employed, however in the age of FaceBook it seems unlikely that it will happen as everyone I meet seems to be starving for some kind of forced mutual connection a spark of hope to ignite some kind of renewed friendship or at the very least a momentary ego boost from the prospect alone.
Such a happening tail pipe of a party...like sugar it's so refined.
